"Drawing -The Ability of Conscious Hands-" Exhibition

Musashino Art University Museum & Library
Finished
From the days when our ancestors didn't possess letters, drawing has been one of the most fundamental forms of communication. This is still clear today as we watch children draw completely lost in themselves. With the progress of our civilization, drawing began to take on diverse functions such as sketching of what can be seen or ideas and as rough drawings for paintings or sculptures. It also became important in fields other than art such as architecture, medicine and archaeology.

The reason why drawing continues to inspire us, and particularly so in today's world where the virtual world seems to take over, is the ability of drawing to allow us to think not just with our brains but with our hands. It allows us to go back to the origin of our creative impulse. Drawings by more than former lecturers and current lecturers of the Musashino Art University are on view in this exhibition organized to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the university.
