Amelie Clavier
Amelie Clavier is an artist from Paris who won the grand prize at an international competition for young artists held in France. She will spend one year living in Japan from the start of this year making work.

Clavier makes tranquil installations made up of geometrical objects, most of which are massive sculpture-like works. Their sense of scale eludes easy representation through photos or videos, and can only be truly appreciated for the first time in person. According to Clavier, the vast dimensions of these objects prompt a "recognition of the fragility of one's own self-consciousness" in the viewer.

In contrast to this sense of massive scale are the brittleness and lightness of the individual objects that make up the installation, as well as a sneaking sense of their transience. These objects made out of washi paper, whose insides are completely hollow, emanate a dim glow. In constructing an installation out of these frail objects, Clavier prompts viewers to reevaluate and ultimately change their perception of space.
