Hiroko Takahashi is an artist who creates innovative work using Japanese traditions, transcending all sorts of genre distinctions between art, craft and fashion. Her patterns are made up of circles and lines that attempt to pursue new possibilities with a bare minimum of elements and modules, while also serving as a metaphor for the simple joys of living without waste or excess. At a time when everything has become readily available to the average consumer, Takahashi's work is a quiet vindication of the small pleasures of everyday life.

The circle and line-based graphics on her kimono, one of her favored formats, gives its wearers and viewers a visual shock, while also hinting at potential directions for a new Japanese sensibility. "I don't just want to make beautiful kimonos that emphasize their outward appearance. I would rather make kimono that condenses the process of how a certain aesthetic sensibility was innovated upon and improved," says Takahashi.

This exhibition features photos that incorporate her newest kimono creations, as well as past pieces featuring her circle and line motifs, or entirely in black and white. Also for sale are a number of limited edition Rocket goods.
