メディア: 絵画 ・ インスタレーション ・ ビデオ・インスタレーション
本展は、日本屈指の現代美術のコレクターとして知られる精神科医・高橋龍太郎氏が収集した作品により、世界から注目を集める1990年代以降の日本の現代美術の流れと動向をたどるものです。若手作家の作品を積極的にコレクションし、国内外で活躍する多くのアーティストたちのデビュー当時の作品や代表作が数多く揃った、1,000点以上におよぶ豊富なコレクションは、この10年の日本のアートシーンを語るうえで欠かせないものです。
現代用語のひとつとして取り上げられるようになった「neoteny（幼形成熟の意）」をキーワードに、高橋コレクションから33人の作家の作品を選び、本展を構成しました。奈良美智、村上隆など国際的に活躍する作家から若手まで多彩な作家による絵画、立体、映像、インスタレーションなど約80点の作品をご紹介します。
個人コレクターだからこそ築き得た、時代とアーティストの感性を鋭く切り取る高橋コレクションをまとめて紹介する初の展覧会です。鑑賞者の方々に、現代美術を観る楽しさ、作品について考える愉しみを、ともに発見していただきたいと思います。

作家や手法ごとに分類された展示方法には、良くも悪くも、「動物園」のような印象を受けました。"neoteny"なのですから、ジャングルのような、混沌や不安定さ、勢いがあっても、また違った楽しみ方ができるのではないでしょうか。作家の特色が強く表れた作品が多く、90年代の日本のアートシーンを学ぶには、とても良い内容だと思います。DOBくんとの約10年ぶりの再会に感動しました！！

ポスターのオオカミがあんな姿とは…。全体的にかわいらしくハッピーな感じの作品が多くて、グロ・難解が少なめで、コレクションを集めた方も楽しんで集めているんだろうなぁと思いました。

Competing aspects of Japanese contemporary art go head-to-head at two group shows
The battle for the soul of the Japanese contemporary art scene is now out in the open, with a pair of exhibitions facing off against each other across town. In the Shinagawa corner, at the Hara Museum of Art, we have “Winter Garden: The Exploration of the Micropop Imagination in Contemporary Japanese Art,” while in the Ueno corner, at the Ueno Royal Museum, we have “Neoteny Japan.” Each exhibition presents a diverse collection of contemporary art and attempts to define a new, wide-ranging trend or movement.
