Satoshi Nishizawa "Photograph/ Superb View, What Exists There"

Satoshi Nishizawa
Satoshi Nishizawa's photographs capture closeup views of interiors, furniture and appliances found in schools where he studied, or public facilities, and objects such as a cord lying on a carpet, a computer sitting on a desk, and a wall with tape marks. The photographs are printed large, about 2 meters square, scaled to human size. Due to the fluorescent lights in the environments where the photos were taken, furniture and appliances appear sharp and flat, generating a distinctive sense of their existence. These environments, devoid of people, give rise to anxiety, and yet his rather "anti-discriminative" vision toward these mundane objects and scenes reveal his honest fixations on them.

Nishizawa was born in Nagano Prefecture and studied media arts in the Department of Information Design at Tohoku University of Art and Design. Since graduating in 2008, he has been living and working in Yamagata where the school is located. He was selected to participate in the notable exhibition for emerging photographers, "New Cosmos of Photography Tokyo" at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in 2007. This is is his first solo exhibition in Tokyo, presenting 10 works including his most recent works.
