Toshio Matsumoto is an influential filmmaker and critic who contributed to the Shochiku "Nouvelle Vague" movement, making avant-garde films and exchanging ideas with other prominent and talented musicians, artists and directors of the time such as Toru Takemitsu, Kiyoshi Awazu, Nagisa Oshima, Shomei Tomatsu, Shuji Terayama and Katsuhiro Yamaguchi. This spring, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the release of his landmark work "Funeral Parade of Roses," Image Forum presents a retrospective program of Matsumoto's films.
