"No More Alternative" Exhibition

Eitoeiko
Finished

Artists

Jun Shirasu, Mitsumi Irahara, Bob Scheib, Alex Ball
The term alternative is today often used to point to a different possible choice or something that is new, with connotations of something that is born our of a spirit of experimentation. But where does such a new alternative come to be? Eitoeiko focuses both on contemporary and ancient arts in the belief that beauty doesn't evolve, that it pertains to an ultimate value that is not dependent on time. What is new comes out of the old. The true alternative cannot be reduced to a mere fashion.

On view are the stone etchings that take inspiration from ancient carvings by Jun Shirasu, lacquer works that deal with concepts of time and memory by Mitsumi Ihara, and works by Alex Ball and Bob Sheib that have received wide acclaim this year.
