The Latin Quarter in Paris gained its name from the Sorbonne, which held lectures in Latin when it was established in the mid-13th century. The Jimbocho and Surugadai areas in Kanda, Tokyo, came to be known as Japan's Latin Quarter during the intensification of student movements based in these areas around 40 years ago. With its manifold universities, bookshops and cafes, the similarities abound.

French illustrator Martin has been living in Japan for 7 years and has been involved in animation and illustration work. He is also a connoisseur of Japanese culture and continues to illustrate Tokyo's landscapes and its people. This exhibition will showcase illustrations of Jimbocho as captured through the eyes of an illustrator who will invite visitors on a voyage into Japan's Latin Quarter.
