"Masterpieces from Museums in Japan" Exhibition

Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Egon Schiele, Pierre Bonnard, Shikanosuke Oka, Wassily Kandinsky, Tsuguharu Fujita et al.
Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Japan Association of Art Museums, the network organization of nationwide public museums, this exhibition presents masterpieces from the enormous collections of Japan's 100 public museums. The exhibition reveals the highlight of the public collection, consisting of 50 western paintings, 70 Japanese modern and contemporary paintings, 50 nihonga paintings and 50 prints and sculptures, which include many famous paintings that can be found in school textbooks and works that haven't been exhibited elsewhere.

From paintings by Millet, Monet and Picasso that many people must be familiar with, to Egon Schiele's "Portrait of Karl Grünwald" which is the only one oil painting by the artist in a Japanese museum, this exhibition showcases masterpieces that public museums acquired since their openings.
