”Secret of Color - From Rouault Collection" Exhibition

Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Georges Rouault
Georges Rouault (1871-1958) placed emphasis on the balance of colors and forms more than anything else in making paintings. For him, form, color, and harmony were the formula to create a beautiful symphony on canvas. He sometimes spent over a decade to complete a painting, and often reworked paintings that were once thought completed. For Rouault, colors and forms were the foundation of his ideas, and therefore they were equally as valuable as his thoughts and feelings.

Consisting of the collections of the Shiodome Museum, this exhibition aims to focus on forms, colors, and their relations as well as techniques that Rouault explored throughout his career. Through a profound analysis of the works in the collection, the Museum discovered his unique way of handling materials, which is also the focus of this exhibition. Newly acquired works will also be exhibited.
