"The Master of Animal Painting, Masayuki Yabuuchi's World" Exhibition

Masayuki Yabuuchi (1940-2000) is known for his animal illustrations. Growing up in Osaka, he moved to Tokyo right after finishing high school in 1959 and started working for Fukuinkan Shoten Publishers. He made frequent visits to the National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo, to work on sketches of taxidermies and animal bones under the supervision of Dr. Yoshinori Imaizumi. In the following year, he started creating illustrations for "The World Encyclopedia of Mammals." His works can be found in a wide range of publications, from children's illustration books and encyclopedias to displays in zoos and advertisements. He also received a number of prizes such as the Asahi Advertisement Grand Prize. He established his studio in Kichijoji in 1985, and until the day he passed away, he created many works there. With the support of Masayuki yabuuchi Museum in Yamanashi Prefecture, this retrospective exhibition introduces animal illustrations by Yabuuchi whose career spanned half a century.
