Artists

Jin-Kyu Kwon
This retrospective exhibition of the works of Kwon Jinーkyu (1922ー73), highly acclaimed as the pioneer of modern Korean sculpture, will be held simultaneously at two venues, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and Musashino Art University. Kwon had extremely deep connections with Japanese sculpture circles. He studied at Musashino Art School, the predecessor of Musashino Art University, in the 1950s and, among other things, received an award at the Nika Exhibition. Unfortunately, though, his works, which have been praised for their underlying realism accompanied by a noble spirituality, are almost unknown in Japan. This exhibition will be the first opportunity to introduce Kwon’s sculpture in its entirety.
