Kanako Oya
A girl, bathroom, laundry and cake, Oya depicts such everyday motifs surrounding women along with red dots that seem to keep growing quietly like bacteria. Painted in reddish tone and placed against inorganic, monochromatic background, these motifs deliver an indescribable sense of anxiety and discomfort. It is as if her painterly world displays the present day where the border between fiction and reality is hard to delineate.

"As media continues to be developed at a rapid pace, we keep loosing our senses as human beings. I want to express such a fragile situation that is unique to the contemporary world," says Oya. Through the very act of painting, she attempts to clarify what the reality is.

Taking the whole gallery space as her canvas, Oya's installation work realizes "empty room" where her fictional images move closer to the reality.
