"Palestinian Costumes" Exhibition

Bunka Gakuen Costume Museum
Finished
The Palestinian region was part of the home for the world's oldest civilization. With Jerusalem situated in it, it is a region that continues to present diverse problems related to religion and culture.

This exhibition presents pre-Israel early 20th century Palestinian clothing decorated with embroidery depicting natural elements such as flowers and trees. The techniques are passed on from mother to daughter including the patterns that symbolize the allegiance to a particular region. This is a precious inheritance for those people who are suffering the loss of tradition living in refugee camps. On view are also decorative accessories that are used not just as ornamentation but also as amulets.
