"Imaginative Shadows" presents a wide array of "shadow" fantasies created by contemporary artists. Before street lights were invented, the moon, stars and fire were the sources of light, shining brighter than we perceive nowadays. Shadows casting shapes of the human body and objects in various scales must have seemed mysterious, and almost magical to the eye of ancient people.

In fact, shadows have been incorporated in traditional storytelling around the world, such as the Indonesian shadow play Wayang, and Japanese Utsushi-e of the Edo period. These traditional forms of storytelling carry a compelling visual language, even to today's audience. Shadows also play a significant role in computer graphics, which adds realism to the design.

Many of the works installed in this exhibition are participatory-based. Shadows of the viewers become a part of these works, intermingling with the artificially created shadows. Taking advantage of new technologies, these works stimulate the audience's imagination.
