Scandinavian Design Lifestyle and Culture Exhibition

Living Design Center Ozone
Finished
Design from Scandinavia possesses a functionality that takes the user into consideration, earning a reputation for being simple but warm and welcoming.

With its harsh climate, scarcity of resources and low population density, Scandinavian countries look upon people and nature as their most vital national assets. Accordingly, the structure of their society and systems is based on this belief. It has also nurtured a national temperament that places a high value on a richness of spirit rather than material wealth.

This exhibition introduces visitors to the background behind this lifestyle through products and designs from Scandinavia: more than 150 everyday items like chairs, lighting fixtures and tableware. At the same time, the exhibition will touch on the social background and context that resulted in the distinct character of Scandinavian design culture, introducing vernacular features of culture, values and perspectives on living.

This exhibition was conceived using the collection of Shin Shimazaki and Kenji Oda (Life Design Museum, Tokyo) as a recreation of an exhibition held at the Sosaku Kanatsu no Mori Art Core Museum in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture.
