Sonton
Sonton is a sound art unit formed in 2004, made up of Takashi Kawanishi (born 1979) and Saki Tokura (born 1982). They stage noise music performances using self-made instruments like Supertoy, a mashup of various toys hooked up to amplifiers that emit explosive sounds, and Toyboard, a combination of various toy instrument keyboards that produces multiple sounds at once. Sonton have been performing actively throughout Japan at live music venues, clubs and galleries.

Using these colorful DIY "toy" instruments, Sonton gives charged performances looking like invincible warriors with combat machines attached to their bodies, producing a manic, vital energy composed of countless overlapping sounds, colors and lights that turns these toy boxes inside out, presenting to the audience an overwhelmingly stimulating world that surpasses the reaches of the imagination.

This exhibition features a 3D installation incorporating their toy instruments that produces sound, light and movement, as well as several drawings. In addition, Sonton will give a special live performance using these instruments during the exhibition period in which a very particular world of reverberating sound, color and light will unfold before the eyes of the audience.
