The Hitotsubo exhibition celebrated its 30th year last spring. The 688 recipients of the Hitotsubo prize thus far have since gone on to become trailblazers in various fields. "The Second Stage at GG" series is an exhibition that hopes to convey something of what these awardees have been up to since exhibiting at Hitotsubo.

Setsuko Hayashida has been making work on the theme of seasons in miniature gardens for over 10 years, shooting photographs of the temple where her mother was born and raised, located in a small seaside town near Nagasaki. For Hayashida, who has been moving house repeatedly since her childhood, the feeling of having returned home was something she could only experience whenever she visited this small town every time the summer holidays rolled around. With its unchanging scenery and constant flow of time, this town was somewhere she could call "home." Of course, some things did continue to change, but this was part of the business of human life. The temple where her mother grew up looked steadily and quietly on as life flowed by continuously. Finally, one day Hayashida realized that this was part of the current of her own life, too.

These works were exhibited at part two of the "Human Cities" project in 2000, followed by the Pingyao International Photography Festival held in China in 2008. This exhibition features these works in a new configuration, in addition to her newest pieces.
