Chun Kwang-Young
Chun Kwang-Young is a representative contemporary artist from Korea who has attracted much attention not only in his native Korea, but also the US, England and Australia.

Kwang-Young was determined to hold an exhibition of his work in Japan only after achieving success in other parts of the world. In May 2008, his work fetched a historic high of US$300,000, while his solo show at Robert Miller Gallery in New York that September was a great success. This is his first and long-awaited solo exhibition in Japan.

Kwang-Young covers his canvas with little triangular pieces wrapped up with traditional Korean paper called hanji. His work is thus completed through a process of wrapping and assembling. Despite the traditional material that is closely related to his roots, the outcome is a work with a surprisingly dynamic and contemporary aesthetic.

All of the works on view are newly created for this show, demonstrating the artist's enthusiasm and the potential for further recognition from both Japan and abroad.
