Sakura (Japanese cherry) has grown naturally in Japan since ancient times and, since the Heian period, it has been regarded as the national flower. By the Edo period, the custom of enjoying cherry-blossom viewing was shared between people of all classes and ages. Blooming spectacularly and blowing about gracefully...its splendorous yet transient nature exudes a sense of enchantment.

Being fascinated with its allure, countless Japanese artists have depicted sakura on their canvases. In the 11th year since the museum moved temporarily to the area right next to Chidorigafuchi, one of the most famous cherry-blossom viewing spots, this annual exhibition is held for the last time. The museum will be moved to Hiroo in October this year. Commemorating the last installment of the series, a total of 50 well-received works are on view.
