Artists

Shingo Ariga, Sho Hasegawa
This exhibition features work by two young artists born in 1980, Shingo Ariga and Sho Hasegawa.

Ariga's previous work includes numerous installations and videos imbued with a sense of grotesqueness that embodies a kind of sexual, violent worldview. The darkness and gloom, nudity and gas masks that frequently appear in his work evoke dark emotions and a longing for the dark. By pumping it up, prodding it and scattering it throughout his work, Ariga discloses to the viewer a sombre, depressing internal world.

Hasegawa, on the other hand, creates installation spaces that incorporate water, sunlight, plants and insects. His practice consists in transforming natural phenomena into art, or rather inserting these phenomena within an art context. By interposing heterogeneous elements onto everyday spaces, Hasegawa prompts viewers to reexamine what we commonly overlook from a micro perspective, presenting us with a
new perceptive framework to view these things.
