"Flowers - An Image of Beauty and Life" Exhibition

Yokosuka Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Zenzaburo Kojima, Keika Kanashima, Hazan Itaya et al.
This exhibition presents a total of 120 Japanese modern artworks by 40 artists from the 1920s and 30s that portray flowers.

Floral motifs are common in all sorts of works throughout history. In post-Meiji era Japan, flowers were used with an emphasis on expressing their liveliness rather than formal representations. Perhaps the intention of these artists was to reach the point where life and beauty come together.

In addition, this exhibition also features drawings and pictures from plant encyclopedias to draw an interesting comparison between art and science.
