This is the first solo exhibition in Japan by Seoul-based artist Hwang Yong-Jin, on the theme of "being human" - in other words, being intertwined with nature, and maintaining an artistic practice from a perspective that combines elements of both nature and civilization. Hwang's wholehearted passion for art is an interrogation of what it means to be "reincarnated" through painting.
In these works, cars float in midair, cups of Coca-Cola ride atop piles of hamburgers - Hwang attempts to extract a clear sort of "substance" from these familiar things.
