"Artist File" exhibition is a serial annual show that introduces notable artists handpicked by the curators of the NACT in a solo exhibition format. This second installment features works by 9 artists from both Japan and abroad. While these artists of varying ages each work in different media such as painting, sculpture, film and installation, they have all achieved their unique modes of expression by making perpetual efforts to pursue their respective artistic paths. It is hoped that viewers will gain an appreciation for today's contemporary art scene through their works, learn how artists today confront issues in the society that surrounds them, and understand the motivations behind their artistic practice.
In line with the museum's basic policy to "give audiences the chance to come into contact with various modes of artistic expression and new perspectives", this exhibition also aims to archive documents relating to all participating artists and convey this valuable information to future generations. As a major art center in Japan, the NACT will continue to make concerted efforts to organize exhibitions that put the museum workers' activities and perspectives to the test.
