Matazo Kayama constantly breathed new life into the postwar Japanese art world. While learning from traditional art form, he opened up new possibilities of nihonga painting with his remarkable techniques and creativity.

Commemorating the 5th anniversary of his passing, this exhibition looks back on Kayama's illustrious career thorough the display of his oeuvre, which ranges from early animal painting, folding screen painting, to later ink painting. Also introduced are his various creative activities such as ceramic, kimono wear and jewelry designs.
