Chiba City Museum of Art celebrates its 14th anniversary this year. Although the current economy is pulling down the art market, the museum received generous donations of works and is expanding their collection. This exhibition presents paintings, prints, calligraphy, sculptures and photographs that became a part of the museum collection after 2003. This will be the first time in the last four years to hold an exhibition of the museum's recent and new acquisitions.

Chiba City Museum of Art holds a strong collection of "nishiki-e" (multi-colored woodblock prints). Works on display in this show include a work by Toshusaisharaku, Hiroshige Utagawa and Eisen keisai's collaboration "The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido," and Yumeji Takehisa's books. Also on view are about 40 of modern paintings, mostly landscape works, donated by Toyomatsu Kusuhara.

The museum has also been enriching their extensive collection of works by artists from Boso in Chiba Prefecture. Shunkei Taoka and Kofu Ishii are some of the artists whose works are in the collection. In addition, works created in the postwar era were donated to the museum, many of which will be on view in this exhibition.
