"Slogan" Exhibition

Ota Fine Arts
Finished

Artists

Akira the Hustler, Naoya Inose, Yoshiko Shimada, Yuken Teruya
The name "Kachidoki", where the gallery is located, refers to the battle cry of army soldiers. The etymology for the title of this group show, "Slogan", comes from ancient Gaelic, and also refers to this sort of roar.

This exhibition features works which, more than questions of aesthetics, tackle political issues and the transmission of messages through art.

Naoya Inose, although still an art school student, poses pertinent questions with this work. His landscape paintings are closely allied to a brand of Northern romanticism. Yuken Teruya will be exhibiting his trademark paper bag works. Peeking into these bags, objects that would otherwise be discarded after use, viewers are astonished to find tiny forests and trees emerging out of waste paper. Teruya's works elude verbal explication and deliver a simple, concise message that is easily graspable. Yoshiko Shimada is exhibiting works based on confessions of secrets to her own family members. Her works are visual representations, contained in chests of drawers, of anonymous secrets.
