This exhibition introduces Japanese modern yo-ga (western-style paintings) selected from the collection of the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art. The museum opened in 1992, inside the Aichi Art Center complex located in the central area of Nagoya City. The current museum collection contains works that were acquired over 50 years ago, when the institution was called the Aichi Prefectural Culture Hall Art Museum. Their main collections are yo-ga and nihon-ga paintings from the Meiji period onward and 20th century European and American art, but in recent years, they also expanded their collection of paintings and crafts created before the Edo period. Notably, they own important paintings that represent each era from the Meiji period until today. This exhibition presents a total of 85 works created in the early Meiji period up until the 1980s.

Also on display are works by artists who are deeply connected with Aichi Prefecture. This is a rare occasion to be able to see the works by Haru Miyawaki, Seiichiro Osawa, Tamiji Kitagawa and Kenkichi Sugimoto in the Kanto region.
