Takeshi Nagase "Real"

Bunkamura Museum of Art

Artists

Takeshi Nagase
Nagase's works express the stillness and movement of life as almost congruent forces. By using clear, sharp colors and an airbrush to achieve delicate depictions of his subjects, Nagase captures both the tenderness and intensity of existence.

This existence derives not from isolated scenes or past memories captured in the photograph, bur rather the plain fact of these lively motifs existing now in the present moment. Looking at the individual parts of these female visages, rendered ten times larger than life, we forget that they are parts of a face; these images make us aware of the mystery of the human form that is composed out of these various elements. Inadvertently, these images prompt us to touch a cheek or stroke someone's hair, and convey the raw warmth of these body parts.

Since participating in the Bunkamura Art Show 2007, a group exhibition that aims to promote and cultivate young artists, Nagase has been expanding the range of his activities. This first solo exhibition showcases a total of 20 mostly new works from three series - humans, flowers, and landscapes - that are on display and for sale.
