All around the world, bold and innovative artworks that overturn notions of what constitutes public art are being produced. This new wave of contemporary art is, in a way, a new spectacle for our contemporary cities that is based on mobilizing both art and the city - art that transforms the urban landscape through staggering acts of creativity, art that draws on anonymous group participation and local communities.
This exhibition is part of a three-year series of events that focuses on this new art movement and how it is being put into practice in the "creative city" of Yokohama.
This being the first year that the exhibition is being held, four committee members will introduce visitors to examples of this global "spectacle" around the world as a point of entry for further discussion. In addition, as a means to stimulate thinking about how we relate to our urban environments, new poetry works by Shuntaro Tanikawa, "24 Questions at Zou-no-hana" will be on display.
