Simon Fagéus
Simon Fagéus is a photographer and videographer based in Sweden. This exhibition showcases around 15 works from his new series "The Island" for the first time - shots of islands like Yakushima, Gunkanjima and Iwojima that he visited during his stay in Japan. At a time of rising sea levels and the disappearance of countless islands worldwide, these landscape photographs, which seem to be covered with a white film, capture the changing fortunes of islands at the far corners of the world. Says Fagéus: "Islands are places to discover things, to escape to, to expand your horizons or just to be alone. My landscape photos are bleached, whitewashed versions of historical islands - just like how one gets blinded by dazzling sunlight. Islands evolve and change according to a set of regulations - to me, they are like fragments of history."
