Banri Yoshioka
Ceramic artist, Banri Yoshioka has been producing vigorous multicolored overglaze-painted ceramics, while also making kohiki glazed, brush lined and steel glazed pieces.
On display in this exhibition are Yoshioka's ceramics, oil paintings and watercolor paintings from "Carlos-kun", the recent series that have aroused people's interests. Also on view are plates, pots, mugs and vases which all allure viewers with their bright colors and playfulness.
The theme of the series is "Live with soil. Keep it up, Japanese agriculture". Carlos-kun is a farmar who has huge, charming mustache. Funny and a little bit lonely, his presence encourages the viewers. Yoshioka expresses through this character his respect to people who produce food and live in agriculture, making us aware of the importance of reexamining the act of eating.
