"Taro Okamoto's Eyes 'Girori'" Exhibition

Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki
Finished

Artists

Taro Okamoto
Face and eye motifs are often seen in Taro Okamoto's paintings. They hold a significant message in his work. The ambiguous images with human-like or animal-like shapes and facial elements sometimes appear charming, while at times horrifying. The eyes are wide open, starring back at us.

Unlike the paintings, Okamoto's sculptures don't involve the eye motif, but instead, holes are incorporated into the forms. Okamoto once said that the emptiness emphasizes the existence of the eyes.

This exhibition focuses on the eye motif used in Okamoto's work, filling the gallery space with starring eyes.
