Mami Hirano
Mami Hirano was born in 1981. She graduated from the Master's program at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2008. Up until now she has produced etchings and dry point prints, but this exhibition features delicate monotypes and paintings with a rich use of materials.

Monotype prints are made by pressing what has been drawn directly onto a copper plate. Hirano's mild color tones, which make her subjects look as if they are marooned in a thick fog, are achieved by making repeated layers with her brush. A bird, snuggling up to a cluster of flowers blooming in a lackluster fashion on the tip of a branch, seems to be resting its tired wings with a sigh of relief, halfway over the course of a long journey. Seeking a place to call its own, wondering when it will ever find it - before setting off once again into the depths of the forest.
