Mikiko Fujita
Mikiko Fujita is a young up-and-coming painter who graduated from Tama Art University in 2008. She creates paintings based on photos that she has taken and collected over the years since her childhood. By transferring the fragments of time and memory contained in these photos onto a canvas, Fujita creates a higher order meta-memory of those events through this technique of reprocessing them in another medium.

This exhibition is a collection of night-themed paintings. Fujita, who feels that paintings of night scenes best demonstrate her strengths as a painter, has depicted landscapes of great transparency and quietude, observed with warmth and sympathy. The gloomy surface of these paintings seems to be wrapped in a gentle tenderness - from the chilly air of the dead of night right up until the gradual warming of the approaching dawn.
