This event has ended.

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, has long played a central role in the artistic culture of the Slavic sphere. From the late 1910s the city was at the forefront of dynamic cultural activity, becoming a hub for the burgeoning Czech avant-garde, and ever since has exerted a major influence, not only on central Europe, but throughout the European Union, Russia, and elsewhere.

In Japan, too, interest in Czech artistic culture, including crafts like book design, illustrated books and animation, has surged in recent years. This exhibition will be the first in Japan to offer a comprehensive introduction to Czech photographic art today, which has been receiving attention worldwide for its unique expressive language and high aesthetic standards. Through approximately fifty works by ten of the most noted modern Czech photographers, it will endeavor to explore the development of the monochrome work that has long played a major role in the Czech photography scene.
