Wilhelm Sasnal "16mm films"

Rat Hole Gallery
Finished

Artists

Wilhelm Sasnal
First solo show in Japan by Wilhelm Sasnal, focusing mostly on 16mm films that are still relatively unknown in this country. Both Sasnal's abstract and figurative paintings are based on photographs of familiar objects, friends and acquaintances. He typically maintains a certain distance from his subjects without imposing any restrictions or definitions on them, attempting to depict them in as objective a manner as possible.

The same stance can be seen in Sasnal's documentary-like 16mm films, which attempt to capture the "reality" of his subjects while maintaining the same objective distance seen in his paintings. On display here are 3 of his 16mm films as well as a selection of paintings chosen by the artist himself.
