Mikiko Kumazawa
We are pleased to announce Mikiko Kumazawa's first solo exhibition at Mizuma Action with a selection of new and old pencil drawings. Kumazawa was born in Aichi prefecture in 1983 and graduated from Musashino Art University with a Master’s degree in 2008. In the same year, she was awarded the “Hisho” Setagaya Art Award. Her exhibition at Citizen's Gallery in Setagaya Art Museum that came with the award was highly acclaimed.

Kumazawa's paintings are filled with crowded towns full of people. They depict an unrealistic world without any signs of deformation or simplification. Her aim is not to depict a plausible alternative world, but rather a wholly familiar world using a slightly different method. For this reason, it can be said that her works depict an image far more "realistically" than even our own retina.
