Built around the first public showing of some new large-format works, this exhibition also provides a retrospective on Kuwakubo's work to date, showcasing a selection of representative paintings and drawings that include new works that have not been previously exhibited. Kuwakubo's works, with their thickly-daubed paint that recalls the work of the Impressionists, are supposedly the creations of a fictional painter - a role that he plays himself. These seaside landscapes, which could also be read as representations of emotional states of mind, transport the viewer to another time and place.
