Kichijoji Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Shinichi Saito
In 1960, the artist Shinichi Saito, who had become close friends with Tsuguharu Fujita while studying abroad in Paris, decided to embark on a journey in northern Japan at the recommendation of Fujita. After hearing a story about a blind singing vagabond woman who played the shamisen from an innkeeper in Tsugaru, Saito set off for Echigo in search of her.

This exhibition, divided into two parts, showcases 120 works focusing mainly on his early pieces, picture books and works inspired by the blind vagabond woman.
