The Gitter collection in New Orleans is well known as a highly unique collection of Japanese art started by Dr. Kurt A. Gitter during his stay in Japan from 1963-5. Attracted to the purity, simplicity and austere beauty of traditional Japanese art, Gitter focused on collecting Zenga works - ink paintings and calligraphy from the Edo period. This is the first comprehensive introduction in Japan to the Gitter collection, showcasing a selection of outstanding paintings from the Edo period.
