Artists

Yasumasa Morimura
Since the 1980s, Yasumasa Morimura has been producing a series of photographic self-portraits that feature himself dressed up as characters from famous paintings, well-known film actresses and so on.

This exhibition showcases his new "Requiem" series in its entirety. These works depict the artist dressed up as a number of famous men from the 20th century. Using his own body as a vessel for the recreation of historical memory, Morimura's self portraits evoke respect and admiration for the public figures, manifestoes and philosophies that shaped the 20th century, offering themselves up as a 21st century requiem to these vanished figures.
