This event has ended.

We have just opened the solo exhibition of Hikari Shimoda, "People who wear animal hide". As the artist herself says "I toned the fear in my paintings down for this exhibition," her paintings have changed and look gentle, especially for those of you who are familiar with her previous works. I would like, however, to recommend "A birthday party", which has a sense of fear unique to Shimoda.

A girl who has wings on her back is gazing at the empty sky. Her wings are not like birds' wings, but rather like those of a butterfly. In the background, the birthday gifts are connected one by one with ornamental chains and an apartment complex in the distance is bursting into flames. This apartment complex also appears in her past work, "The funeral of character." The deliberately painted girl and the dramatic light-dark contrast in the background make this piece unbalanced, which haunts us with a kind of mysterious anxiety.
