Jun Shirasu "Beleza Universal"

Finished

Artists

Jun Shirasu
This exhibition features works by Jun Shirasu that were created using traditional Portuguese "azulejo" ceramic tilework, an artform with over 500 years of history, in an attempt to reconsider the nude female portrait genre. Although these women were original portrayed as saintly figures, the status of women in society has since made great strides. In these works, however, Shirasu depicts contemporary versions of these saintly women with a profound sense of respect.
