Artists

Kanji Wakae
Kanji Wakae began making paintings, sculptures, installations and photographs in the 1970s, using photos of urban landscapes and everyday objects like chessmen as materials. He grew up in Yokosuka near the American military base in Kanagawa prefecture, witnessing firsthand the demonstrations against the US-Japan security treaty in the 1960s - a background which imparts a particular sense of urgency and dynamism to his works.

This is Wakae's first painting-only exhibition, showcasing 6 colorful acrylic works with a pop/graphic sensibility.
