Megumi Sato "Dislocation of Color"

LIXIL Gallery 1 & 2
Finished

Artists

Megumi Sato
Sato's canvases overflow with bright greens, pinks, blues and oranges that sometimes resembles a thin overlapping mesh of colored bands layered like a relief pattern, other times resembling a film of oil that has been stretched out. She uses a sculpting knife or cutter to scrape off up to 8 layers of oil paint that have been applied to her canvas in order to create abstract images that recall maps or marbled patterns.
