Misaki Kawai Exhibition

Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery
Finished

Artists

Misaki Kawai
Both Misaki Kawai's paintings and sculptures have something inimitable about them, especially their fluorescent day-glo colors and rough surface textures created using cardboard and fabric. Although her works are often said to belong to the "heta-uma" school of Japanese art, a more appropriate English expression might be "good sense, bad technique". Her naive, seemingly innocent work is completely free of either traces of formalism or quotations and borrowings from classical painting.
