Joseph Cornell + Mutuo Takahashi "Intimate Worlds Enclosed"

Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Joseph Cornell, Mutuo Takahashi
Joseph Cornell is an artist known for his handmade wooden boxes containing reproductions of old paintings, shells and star charts that are both works of art and treasure chests enclosing mementoes from his own blissful childhood - display cases that memorialize unrealized dreams and longings.

In 1993, Mutuo Takahashi, a devoted admirer of Cornell's art, wrote a series of poems that pay tribute to his work. This exhibition features 16 poems by Takahashi that extol the 7 wooden boxes and 9 collages by Cornell from the museum's collection.
