Yuta Hayakawa + James Welling "Flow (at Ambiguous Gallery)"

Wako Works of Art
Finished

Artists

Yuta Hayakawa, James Welling
Yuta Hayakawa's works highlight natural phenomena such as gravity, the movement of air, surface tension and so on. His delicate, hollow sculpture-like figures and thin objects floating in midair that maintain an unnatural balance, powered by analog devices that Hayakawa makes himself, somehow also manage to give off a dignified presence.

James Welling's practice is centered on an investigation of the essential nature of photography as a medium. Over the course of his 30 year career, Welling as made abstract works using aluminum foil and velvet, black and white photos that depict fragments of everyday life, and photograms that capture gradations of light.

This two-man exhibition of Hayakawa's sculptures and Welling's photos invites viewers to partake in a new visual experience that highlights the joys of paying renewed attention to the myriad of phenomena that unfold in the nooks and corners of our world.
