"Makoto Fujimura vs Young Artists" Exhibition

The Sato Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Makoto Fujimura, Kei Arai, Akitsugu Ishizaki et al.
In the late 1980s, a group of painting students at Tokyo University of the Arts tried various methods in an attempt to overturn existing images of "nihonga" painting. Four of the more prominent of these artists were Keizaburo Okamura, Norihiko Saito, Hidenori Majima and Makoto Fujimura.

This exhibition, which features works that were originally shown at a solo show by Fujimura held in 1997, hopes to shed some light on the future development of the genre by today's young artists.
